Chithirai Pongal festival begins with kodiyettram

The 12 day annual Sivakasi Panguni Pongal at Sri Arulmighu Badrakaliamman Thirukovil began on 30th April 2013, Tuesday, with the traditional Kodiyettram (flag hoisting) ceremony. Hundreds of devotees thronged the Badrakaliamman Temple to offer worship on the opening day of the festival. Fireworks display has been arranged. Sivakasi Chithirai Pongal and Kayirukuthu festival will be held on 7th and 8th May 2013 respectively. Temple was decorated with colourful decorative lights, festoons, clothes, fruits and flowers. The way leading to Sivakasi Badrakaliamman Temple wore a festive look. The padha kannikkai toy sellers, balloon, florists and other vendors arranged stalls on either side of the road near Badhrakali amman Temple. Some devotees began to carry out Padhakaanikai from today onwards.
