Sivakasi flooded by record rainfall

Today, after a very long years, Sivakasi hit with record rainfall. Record rains cause heavy flooding in Sivakasi town. Heavy rain for three hours from 5:20 p.m. resulted in flash floods in Sivakasi and Thiruthangal areas. The sudden, steady and heavy downpour, which began late on today evening, caught many by surprise. While Sivakasi working professionals who were retuning home were stranded, the rains also affected school and college students, as they continued on until 08:00 p.m.. Several Sivakasians who were stuck in the rain for hours walked through knee deep water to reach their destinations. The flooded road was not motorable for the motorist. The drainage was overflowed and there was inadequate anti-flooding arrangements made in the town. With power supply cut off in most parts of Sivakasi, due to fallen trees and branches, it highly affected the routine life of Sivakasians.

The heavy showers for more than three hours in Sivakasi town for the past two days brought the highest inflow of the season to both the Sirukulam and Periyakulam Kanmai. Harish, a schoolgoer said sivakasiweekly.com that, I have never seen such heavy rains in Sivakasi for as long as I can remember...the situation is chilling and stunning.

The consecutive rain for last two days brought down the maximum temperature to 30 degrees Celsius, six notches below average, while the minimum dropped to 24 degrees Celsius, four notches below average. A few spells of rain are expected for next two days in Sivakasi town. The heavy downpour was a bit of surprise for Sivakasians.
