Sivakasi winds up national conference on fireworks

The evening sky of Sivakasi on Saturday was lighted up with various hues of colourful fireworks display to conclude "Pyrotech - 2013", the second national conference on fireworks.

The half-an-hour fireworks show involved the display of various pyrotechnics -- Sony Fireworks displayed fireworks for the first 15 minutes and was followed by Jumbo Fireworks for another 10min.

There was also musical fireworks show, where fireworks is synchronised with music, which was displayed in Paris three years ago. Rajasingh Chelladurai, director of Jumbo Fireworks, said they wanted to display musical fireworks, which were used in international competition. "The 10 min music was composed using various Indian songs," he said.

Over 50,000 people from across the region witnessed the show near a dried tank. It is a common sight to see small-level of fireworks display during ceremonies like marriage, but the people were awestruck to see such a massive display of fireworks, the onlookers said. "Manufacturers of Sivakasi have showed their might in pyrotechnics with a breathtaking show, and delegates across the country have applauded their efforts," said R Venugopal, controller of fireworks, Sivakasi.

He also said the two-day national conference was a breakthrough for the fireworks industry. "New generation entrepreneurs in fireworks industry are willing to modernize fireworks industry. There were a lot of interaction among manufacturers and experts from council of scientific and industrial research ( CSIR) and Indira Gandhi centre for atomic research ( IGCAR). We believe that the conference was a success, and its results will reflect in coming days," he added.
