Govt Hospitals Get Rs 40-crore Infra Boost

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated a slew of amenities and refurbished buildings at various State-run hospitals, through video-conferencing, on Wednesday. In all, the CM inaugurated schemes executed by the Health and Family Welfare department worth `40.35 crore at various locations across Tamil Nadu.

At the Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital in the city, the CM inaugurated the Silver Jubilee Auditorium that has been refurbished at a cost of `1.9 crore. In addition, a newly procured CT scanner was also inaugurated. She also declared open the emergency care centre that was constructed at Padianallur, in nearby Tiruvallur district.

In Salem Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, the CM inaugurated their newly constructed examination hall, library which have been built at a cost of `4.47 crore. Patients seeking medical assistance will now be able to utilise the facilities at the new block at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, build at a cost of `6.38 crore -- with facilities including a state-of-the-art ICU, outpatient ward, maternity ward, 66 beds and chambers for professors and doctors.

Other new buildings inaugurated by the CM included upgraded Primary Health Centres in four places, including Thirthamalai in Dharmapuri, and a new mortuary at the Nagapattinam GH The burns unit functioning at the Sivakasi GH, has now been upgraded as a Centre of Excellence and was recognised and inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
