More than 100 students took part in the programme that was organised at the school premises. Inaugurating the programme, Dr.V.K.Kathiravan, Chairman, Sivakasi Municipality, said that the prevailing drinking water shortage and depleting underground water table in Sivakasi town has left no other option but to collect and make optimum use of the minimum available rainwater in Sivakasi. Dr.V.K.Kathiravan has asked the school students to plant saplings on their birthday and other occassions, and take care of them to make them environmentally conscious. Nurture more trees and get more oxygen. Apart from oxygen production, trees also absorb the carbon dioxide in the air, whose increased level is a major cause for global warming, he added.
