Rs 363 Cr Worth Water Schemes Launched

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday launched integrated drinking water schemes commissioned at Rs 813.54 crore by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, which would benefit over a thousand rural habitations across Tamil Nadu. Jaya inaugurated the scheme through video conferencing at a function held at the Secretariat on Friday. The schemes include the Rs 363-crore drinking water project for the people in the municipalities of Virudhunagar, Rajapalayam, Srivilluputhur, Sivakasi, Aruppukottai, Kariyapatti, Siruchuzhi and Narikkudi, all in Virudhunagar district.

The scheme undertaken in Salem at Rs 270 crore would benefit Attur and Narasingapuram municipalities besides 20 town panchayats and 12 panchayat unions.

At Uthakuli union in Tirupur district, the 27.57 crore scheme would provide drinking water for about 250 households. At Tiruchy district, the Rs 16.16 crore project that was inaugurated by the Chief Minister would benefit over a thousand households.
Similarly, the Rs 17 crore scheme for Thanjavur district and Rs 14.94 crore scheme for Erode were also inaugurated during the function.

Municipal Administration and Water Supply Minister S P Velumani, Chief Secretary K Gnanadesikan, advisor to the government, Sheela Balakrishnan, department secretary K Phanindra Reddy, TWAD board MD C Vijayaraj Kumar were among those present.
