Purattasi brings down meat sales & price in Sivakasi |
25-09-2015 25th September 2015 Purattasi brings down meat sales & price in Sivakasi Following the commencement of Tamil month Purattasi (mid-September to mid-October), last week, meat sale in Sivakasi town has fallen by 40%. Hindus usually prefer to keep away from consuming non-vegetarian food as the month is considered auspicious for Lord Perumal. Subsequently, the choice of non-vegetarian items in hotels also dipped due to this. Chicken sold at Rs.160/- per kg in previous months was priced at Rs.140/- starting from last week. Prices were slashed due to reduced demand and it is usual for the sales to dip this Purattasi month. Like chicken, mutton sales also dropped by 40% though the price of the meat which is around Rs.550/- per kg did not come down. Unlike chicken, mutton prices dont fluctuate, according to butchers. |
