Solar power plant

Madurai Division has chosen Sivakasi and Tiruppuvanam railway stations for setting up solar power plants with an installed capacity of 1.2 kWp each.

The off-grid plants would energise some lights and fans in the railway stations. “The power plant would have batteries connected that store power during the day time and to power the lights and fans during nights,” Mr. Surendran said.

The plants, at a cost of Rs. 1.40 lakh each, are expected to be commissioned by December end.
