Pongal sale moving to top gear

As Pongal festival is just a day away, sale of the goods required for the traditional celebration of the harvest festival is gradually moving to top gear in Sivakasi town. Sugarcane, the inseparable constituent of Pongal celebrations, from Madurai, Theni and Tiruchi districts, is flooding the Sivakasi markets for the past three days. A bundle with 12 canes was sold between Rs.400 and Rs.450. Palm tuber (Panangkilangu) is Rs.30/- (10 pieces), Manjal kattu Rs.40/-.
