15.25 lakh voters in Virudhunagar

A total of 15,25,040 voters are in Virudhunagar district as per the final electoral roll released on Wednesday. Sivakasi Assembly constituency has the highest number of voters among the seven constituencies in the district.

The list, released by Collector V. Rajaraman in the presence of representatives from recognised political parties, showed that women were higher in number with 50.7 per cent of them. There were 132 voters who had identified their gender as ‘others’.

As per the list, there were 2,34,432 voters in Sivakasi constituency, 2,21,788 voters in Rajapalayam constituency, 2,30,368 voters in Srivilliputhur constituency, 2,22,271 voters in Sattur constituency, 2,05,887 in Virudhunagar constituency, 2,04,976 voters in Aruppukottai constituency and 2,05,318 in Tiruchuli constituency. Mr. Rajaraman said that after the release of the draft electoral roll in September 2015, 30,549 eligible voters had been added to the roll from among 33,406 applications received for addition.

He said that actions were being taken to issue the voter identity cards to all the newly registered voters on January 25, 2016.
