Panguni Pongal Celebrated in Sivakasi

On 8th April 2018, Sunday, devotees from many parts of Virudhunagar district will congregate at Mariamman Temple in Sivakasi to celebrate Panguni Pongal. The Panguni Pongal Festival began at the temple, managed by the Sivakasi Hindu Nadar Devasthanam, on 1st April 2018, Sunday with the auspicious flag hoisting. Devotees from in and around Sivakasi observe a penance for 21 days before the day of preparing Panguni Pongal. A host of cultural programmes, including stage plays by leading drama troupes, are conducted in the evenings on festival days to entertain devotees. The temple and police administration have made special arrangements to conduct the festival in a smooth manner. Paadha Kanikai, muthu poduthal were offered by the devotees to Lord Mariamman. Some devotees carried out Aayiramkan Paanai. Majority of Sivakasians, in their home prepared traditional Kathirikaai and Murungaikaai Puli Kulambu. The temple remains open throughout the night and special prayers were performed. This year, for the first time thepporsavam will be held at the newly renovated temple teppakulam.
