Sivakasi Panguni Pongal festival begins with flag hoisting

The 10 day annual Sivakasi Panguni Pongal at Sri Arulmighu Mariamman Thirukovil began on Sunday with the traditional Kodiyettram (flag hoisting) ceremony. Hundreds of devotees thronged the temple to offer worship on the opening day of the festival. Sivakasi Panguni Pongal and Kayirukuthu festival will be held on 7th and 8th April 2013 respectively. The car festival would be held on 10th April 2013. Temple was decorated with colourful decorative lights, festoons, clothes and flowers. The way leading to Sivakasi Mariamman Temple wore a festive look. The padha kannikkai toy sellers, balloon, florists and other vendors arranged stalls on either side of the road near Mariamman Temple.
