Thousands witnessed 6-aam Thiruvizhaa

Yesterday, Chithirai Pongal 6-aam Thiruvizhaa was held at mandagapadi place near Sivakasi Manikoondu, organised by Sivakasi Hindu Nadar Uravinmurai. While one half of the Chithirai Pongal 6-aam Thiruvizhaa, that stands for the famous and colouful mandagapadi. Devotees worshiped Badrakaliamman in mandagapadi. The place of mandagapadi was decorated with glasses, festoons, garlands, flowers, thoranais attractive colour papers and decorative lights. This year, there was live coverage and broadcast of the festival by the local cable tv networks. The mandagapadi place were decked up for the special day. Devotees from the nearby villages and Sivakasians thronged the mandagapadi place throughout the night to offer prayers to the deity. A huge posse of policemen, assisted by Traffic Constable and volunteers of Sivakasi Hindu Nadar Uravinmurai, regulated the large gathering. Sivakasians captured the colouful moments of mandagapadi in their mobile phones and digital cameras. After worshiping the Goddess, Sivakasians are busy in buying the traditional Vellai Mittaai and Karuppatti Mittaai, and visited poruttkaatchi. As a part of the festival, Aadaludan Paadal was organised near Mariamman Temple. Yesterday it was working day in majority of the offices in Sivakasi town and today the offices and industries were announced holiday. The pongal and kayirukuthu festival will be held on 7th and 8th May 2013, respectively.
