Kayirukuthu Thiruvizhaa

Chithirai Pongal Kayirukuthu festival was celebrated in Sivakasi, yesterday. Large number of devotees take part in Vesham Poduthal ( swearing of white and black dots in their body and having neem leaves in their hands ) and sings the song Aahoi Ayyaahoi. Devotees carried mulaipaari, agni chatti, 1000 kannu paanai, and maavilakku. Some devotees perform nerthikadan such as Padha Kaanikai, Kan Malar, Muthu Poduthal, Kayirukuthudhal and mottai podudhal. Sevaral fans club and Social Clubs in Sivakasi distributed free Butter Milks, Rose milk, Sarbath, Lemon Juices and Paanai Karam to the public. At early morning, Dr.Kathiravan, Chairman, Sivakasi Municipality carried out Agni Chatti. Sivakasi Hindu Nadar Uravinmurai arranged the festival in a grand and in an systematic manner. The temple and police administration have made special arrangements to conduct the festival in a smooth manner.

Earlier, there was huge crowd seen in all the mutton and chicken stalls, throughout the day. In Sivakasi, price of Mutton is Rs.500 a kg. and Chicken is Rs.160 a kg.. Majority of the offices and industries announced holiday on account of Kayirukuthu festival. At night a wowing fireworks display has been arranged. Thousands thronged the Badrakaliamman Kovil and enjoy watching the fireworks display show. A large number of Sivakasians witnessed the colourful fireworks show from the top of their home and various buildings. Sivakasians captured the colourful moments of the fireworks display show in their mobile phones and digital cameras. And Kayirukuthu festival entertains all sections of people in Sivakasi.
