Dangers of Chinese fireworks

Chinese crackers use potassium chlorate, which was banned in India way back in 1992. The ban was imposed because the substance is toxic and can harm you if it comes in contact with the skin or eyes.

Mixtures containing chlorates are notoriously sensitive to shock, friction and temperature change. Yet, Chinese units use potassium chlorate for various reasons, including its low input cost as compared to potassium nitrate.
