Quality conscious Sivikasi firework makers postpone production following rain

MADURAI: Under normal circumstances, Sivakasi should have commenced its fireworks production for the next years Diwali by now. However, fireworks manufacturers are planning to postpone the production for two more weeks as the region is receiving rain which may hamper the quality of their products.

Sivakasi - the fireworks hub of the country - shuts down one week before Diwali and resumes its production ten days after the festival of lights.

However, this year production may delay further since fireworks production need sunlight and lesser moisture in the air.

"Most of the units have completed offering prayers ahead of next season but production has not started since it is raining," said A M S G Ashokan of We Two Brand fireworks.

A Mariappan, member of Tamil Nadu Fireworks and Amorces Manufacturers Association (TANFAMA), said high moisture in air would impact the quality of fireworks, especially in colourful fireworks items.

"We have decided to wait for two more weeks before starting the production since we anticipate more rains," he said.
