Cusat pulls up printing press

The Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has pulled up the management of a printing press in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, for the poor quality printing of question papers for its Common Admission Test (CAT) 2015.

Senior varsity officials have asked the company representatives to explain why action should not be taken against them for the alleged lapses that eventually resulted in the delay in publication of the results of the common admission test for various courses offered by Cusat.

The Hindu has learnt that the printing unit management rejected the allegation that they were responsible for the poor quality of printing. They blamed the varsity employees for not taking adequate care while clearing the question papers before going in to the press. But the varsity authorities rejected these claims and held the printing press responsible for the poor quality of printing.

The management of the printing press unit tried to convince the university authorities that they had successfully undertaken the printing of question papers of CAT for long. But the Cusat administration was not satisfied with the reply. The varsity authorities also told the printing press management that such errors could not be justified owing to the national character and acceptance for the common admission test.

The CAT results had got delayed compared to the previous years following the confusion over the distribution of marks for questions that were not legible in the CAT for B. Tech exams. Many invigilators had reported that at least 10 to 15 questions in the B. Tech entrance exam held on May 2 were not legible and difficult to read.
