09-04-2012 9th April 2012 - Pavala Rajesh Kumar Jeyabalan 2012 Panguni Pongal Festival in Sivakasi Panguni Pongal Festival was celebrated in Sivakasi Arulmighu Sri Mariamman Thirukovil on 8th April 2012. Numerous shops were placed around the temple, a week before the celebration. A large number of devotees offered worship to Sivakasi Mariamman, processional idol of Sivakasi Arulmighu Sri Mariamman Thirukovil, on the occassion of Panguni Pongal Festival, on Sunday. Almost all the offices and industries declared local holidays for 3 days. The Sivakasi town has been decked up with festoons, flowers, lights and banners for the Sivakasi Panguni Pongal Festival. Sivakasians prepared and offered pongal for Mariamman from 6th April 2012 onwards. Sivakasi Hindu Nadar Uravinmurai arranged the festival in a grand and in an systematic manner. The temple and police administration have made special arrangements to conduct the festival in a smooth manner. Paadha Kanikai, muthu poduthal were offered by the devotees to Lord Mariamman. Last year around 5 local cable channels telecasted the Pongal Festival lively, but, this year there was no telecasting and no video capturing of the festival by the local cable channels. Panguni Pongal is one of the most famous and important festivals in Virudhunagar district. And in Sivakasi it is celebrated in a grand manner every year. This festival is a real feast for the Sivakasians. |
