Therukattu Pongal Season Begins with Traditional Fervour

The much-awaited Therukattu Pongal season has commenced across several towns and villages in Virudhunagar District. Therukattu Pongal celebrated on the auspicious Tamil month of Maasi. Observed usually on any Sundays, Tuesdays or Fridays of Maasi month. Therukattu Pongal, is a vibrant neighbourhood celebration where residents gather on the streets to prepare Pongal collectively. Streets were cleaned and decorated with colourful kolams, festoons, and banana stems, creating a festive atmosphere. And one day temple created for goddess Muthaalamman. And demolished in one day. Apart from various caste and religions, the ritual symbolises unity, prosperity, and shared joy among residents. Children participated in games and cultural activities, while elders offered prayers for wellbeing and harmony in the neighbourhood. Folk music and traditional performances added to the celebratory mood.
