With frequent power outages ( both scheduled and unannounced ) in Sivakasi town, sales of emergency lights, torch lights, fans, UPS, inverters, batteries and other allied electronic equipment have shoot up. Rechargeable torch and emergency lights price ranges from Rs.50 to Rs.850. Most of these products are chinese makes and available in all the major roadside shops. Even though there is no guarantee for these products, people-s popular choice is buying these products. There is huge demand for emergency fans in Sivakasi. The price of these fans ranges from Rs.350 to Rs.3,200. During power cut time these fans are running around for 3 hours. These fans turned to be a great relief for the parents of new born babies. And all these fans are sell out in no time, in Sivakasi. Most of the middle class people in Sivakasi set up UPS and inverters, long back. Even the price of the batteries increasing day by day like gold, Sivakasians never mind in changing the batteries, because Power has become the basic necessity.
