Voter verification starts in Sivakasi

In the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Sivakasi Municipality is coming out with a revised voters list. Sivakasi residents can expect officials visiting their homes to verify their address details. Sivakasi Municipality wants to ensure that all the genuine voters find their names in the list and the non-applicable ones are weeded out. The exercise is expected to take a month for completion. It started on August and is expected to be over by the end of September, 2013. Sivakasi Municipality Officials will visit each house for verification. Where the house is locked, they will inquire with the neighbours about the whereabouts of the concerned person. After the verification is over the stickers will be stuck on the doors. Mr.Raju, Sivakasi Municipality Official said sivakasiweekly.com that, door-to-door verification of the voter list has been taken by a team of 54 Sivakasi Municipality Staff. Enumeration officials will visit every house in Sivakasi and verify whether the names of the voters, door number, age, relationships, residential address and voter id card details had been recorded correctly. The enumerators had been instructed to get the signature from the voters in the family as a mark of verification. And the work is expected to be completed by one month, he added.
