Sun, Moon acquire rainbow halo on the same day in Sivakasi

In Sivakasi, A rainbow-coloured "Sun halo" that lingered from 10:45 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. in a cloudy sky generated much curiosity among the Sivakasians on 6th September 2014, Saturday. At Saturday night a halo was visible around the Moon, for several hours. It is caused by tiny ice crystals in the atmosphere. "The colours are the result of refraction, much like in a rainbow, with the sunlight passing through water droplets and getting refracted. Ice crystals form in the cloud when the temperature is very low." Sivakasians captured the rare phenomenon in their mobile phone, digital cameras and camcorders.
