Staff Development Programme Organised at ANJAC

On behalf of Life Science Cluster Departments of Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi a staff development programme was organized on 22/02/2016 in the Conference hall. Dr. N.K.Udaya Prakash, Director (R&D), MARINA labs, Chennai was invited as guest of honour. Dr. D.N.P.Sudarmani, Assistant Professor presided over the programme. Dr. P.Samuel, Assistant Professor delivered the welcome address to the gatherings. Dr. Udaya Prakash during the technical session addressed on the most thrust area entitled “Aerobiology; Patentable findings in interdisciplinary science”. During the session he stressed on the microbial flora especially the distribution of spores of fungi in the trophosphere and its influence on the development of generalized allergies among the urban population. During the lecture he shared his views on “Chennai Pollen Calendar” which clearly describes the seasonal availability of pollen in the atmosphere and its relationship to the development of respiratory tract infection among the risk prone urban population. Further he discussed on merging the ideas of engineering science with modern life science to develop novel crafts like Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) equipped with camera to collect the data regarding the pattern of distribution of pollen in the atmosphere. He also stated the influence of fungi flora on the development of health risk in farmers working in the farm house. Through one of his case study, he made it possible to forecast disease of economically important crop plants using UAV. UAV could also be exploited in disease forecasting in thrust areas like medical, agriculture, veterinary science and in palynological sciences. Towards the end of the session he targeted on owning patents against the findings. He has clarified the doubts regarding patents raised by the staff members through simple steps. Dr. S. Balaji, Assistant professor, delivered vote of thanks.
