Chithirai Pongal Kayirukuthu festival was celebrated in Sivakasi, on 6th May 2026, Wednesday. Large number of devotees take part in Vesham Poduthal ( swearing of white and black dots in their body and having neem leaves in their hands ) and sings the traditional song Aahoi Ayyaahoi. Devotees carried mulaipaari, agni chatti, 1000 kannu paanai, and maavilakku. Some devotees perform nerthikadan such as Padha Kaanikai, Kan Malar, Muthu Poduthal, Kayirukuthudhal and mottai podudhal. Sevaral fans club and Social Clubs in Sivakasi distributed free Butter Milks, Rose milk, Sarbath, Lemon Juices and Paanai Karam to the public. Sivakasians posted their vesham poduthal photos in Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms. Sivakasi Hindu Nadar Uravinmurai arranged the festival in a grand and in an systematic manner. The temple and police administration have made special arrangements to conduct the festival in a smooth manner. There was no rain on Chithirai Pongal Kayirukuthu Thiruvizha in Sivakasi, this year, but the town received moderate rainfall on the auspicious day of Chithirai Pongal,

Thousands of devotees thronged the historic Sri Badrakaliamman Temple on the occasion of the Chithirai Pongal festival, where a spectacular half-an-hour fireworks display lit up the night sky on 6th May 2026, Wednesday.

The temple premises and surrounding streets witnessed a sea of devotees from Sivakasi and neighbouring areas who gathered to participate in the grand celebrations. Special pujas and rituals were conducted from the early hours, and devotees offered Pongal to Goddess Badrakaliamman seeking blessings for prosperity and well-being.

As part of the festival celebrations, Goddess Amman was taken in a beautifully decorated “Poopallakku” procession amid devotional chants and traditional music. Devotees lined up along the procession route to witness the colourful ceremonial procession and receive the blessings of the deity.

The highlight of the festival was the grand fireworks display organised in the evening, which lasted for nearly 30 minutes. The dazzling fireworks illuminated the skyline and drew loud cheers from the gathered crowd. Sivakasi, known for its fireworks industry, showcased a vibrant array of aerial shots, colourful patterns and sound displays during the event.

Police and temple authorities had made elaborate arrangements for crowd management and security to ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations. The festival concluded peacefully with devotees expressing joy over the grand arrangements and vibrant atmosphere at the temple.
